Teacher Regina, from Russia, introduced children to traditional Russian pancakes as part of an exploration of Maslenitsa. Beginning with the ingredients, children took part in making a well-loved dish while discovering a different culture.
The original lesson introduced Maslenitsa as a celebration of nature at the end of winter and the arrival of spring. The thin pancakes offered children an appealing way to explore the tradition.

Teacher Regina invited the children to pick up the pancakes with their hands so that they could feel their lightness and thin texture.

After cooking, children connected the warm, round, golden pancakes with the sun, understanding why they became a symbol for welcoming spring. It was a joyful encounter with food, culture and new experiences.
