Meeting a Tortoise with Teacher Robert

During a week of learning about cold-blooded animals, Teacher Robert brought a real tortoise for the children to meet up close before the topic ended.

Their much-anticipated visitor brought a long-lived reptile out of the textbook and into an experience the children could observe for themselves.

The children had earned marbles by taking part in English activities. On this occasion, instead of exchanging them for snacks for themselves, they chose pesticide-free vegetables to feed the tortoise.

Excited by the close encounter, they followed the tortoise, looked into its eyes and tried talking to it. The children showed gentleness and generosity, finding happiness in giving.
